GARDENING 101

DELICIOUS OR DISGUSTING?
This summer our ward was able to offer garden space donated by a family in the ward to anyone interested. We planted zucchini, crookneck, butternut, cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe, green beans, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries and quite a few pumpkins. We shared the garden with some friends so we could take turns watering. We learned some things we will not do again, were quite frustrated with things that we watered and took care of and didn't really produce, and enjoyed the things that did produce. Our watermelons had a hard time. They would just not get very big and if we didn't pick them soon enough they would start to get soft, split open and rot. Madison and Bailey went to the garden the other day with me and we decided to pick one since another one had started to rot. After Bailey ate her half of the watermelon, she told me she did not like warm watermelons that had seeds. She said it was DISGUSTING! I should have taken pictures of the garden but didn't. We were really excited about our pumpkin patch. My friend planted the pumpkins and she planted A LOT! Unfortunately, the aphids started to attack and I could not get rid of them. So we are picking the pumpkins now and hope they will keep until October. Pretty wishful thinking!

VERY cute watermelons. So little, and fun. If you could only have about 20 of them, and a kid party planned around them. Just the right size....seedless of course. Fun for you, gardening is a ton of work, but worth it, glad you had friends to share the work and wonder. love and miss you!

wow, I am impressed you grew watermelons. That doesn't seem like an easy feat, and all the rest you grew this year. Gardening is so fun! I love getting my hands dirty in it;)I love reading all your posts.
